85 Friedrich Nietzsche Quotes On Life and Love

These Friedrich Nietzsche quotes serve as a catalyst, echoing through the corridors of thought and existence, sparking contemplation, and leaving an indelible imprint on the very fabric of life.

Friedrich Nietzsche was a German philosopher, essayist, and cultural critic whose writings had a major influence on Western philosophy and intellectual history.

His body of work covered a wide variety of topics, including religion, history, arts, culture, science, and philology.

Born on October 15, 1844, Nietzsche began his career as a classical philologist before turning to philosophy.

In his works, he attempted to unmask the motives that underlie traditional Western religion, morality, and philosophy.

His ideas had a profound impact on generations of philosophers, psychologists, poets, theologians, playwrights, and novelists.

Most of Nietzsche’s life was plagued by health problems, and he suffered a complete loss of his mental faculties in 1889 at age 44. He died in 1900.

Although his name was later invoked by fascists to advance their own German nationalist ideologies, Nietzsche was opposed to antisemitism and nationalism.

It’s hard selecting a specific number of quotes, especially Nietzsche’s. It’s even harder to see them for what he really intended, but I guess there’s lies the beauty of written work. Here’s my pick:

“I teach you the overman. Man is something to be surpassed. What have
    you done to surpass him?
All beings thus far have created something beyond themselves: and you want to be the ebb of this great tide, and even return to the beast rather than surpass man?
What is the ape to man? A laughing-stock or a painful embarrassment.
And just the same shall man be to the overman: a laughing-stock or a painful embarrassment.
You have made your way from worm to man, and much inside you is still worm. Once you were apes, and still man is more of an ape than any of the apes.”

“The creator wished to look away from himself; so he created the world.”

“Thus spoke the devil to me, once on a time: “Even God has his hell: it is his love for man.”
