Do you feel like you’re not good enough? If yes, here are a few things to remember that will stop you from being mean to yourself.

When was the last time you wanted to do something but then hesitated, once you heard the loud inner voice that said, “Are you crazy, you can’t do that!” We all face it.

Doubt can yell and scream, but that doesn’t make it accurate or right.

In order to live a forward thinking and positive life, we need to continuously stretch ourselves, which is much easier said than done.

Here are 15 things to remember when your confidence is low

1.) You Have to Start Somewhere

To be good at anything, you have to start as a beginner. It’s inevitable, so embrace the excitement of a new adventure!

2.) Everyone Thinks They Aren’t Good Enough

What I like to refer to as Amateur Syndrome, everyone feels they know less and aren’t as good as those around them, it’s not just you. It’s a more level playing field than you thought!

3.) Good Enough For Whom?

Who’s standards are you holding yourself to, and do they matter personally? Professionally?

Walt Disney himself was fired from a newspaper job because his editor felt he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” Maybe he wasn’t “good enough” for this person or this particular job, but he certainly was good enough by other standards!

4.) Someone Looks Up to You

You may feel you aren’t as good as a colleague, a friend, a mentor, but someone else is thinking they aren’t as good as you.

No matter who you aim to emulate, there is someone aiming to emulate you, as they should!

5.) If You Were Perfect, You’d Be Bored

In school, kids who are disruptive are often just bored. They know the material so they need something else to do.

If you were good and confident in everything you do, you’d be searching for something else. How boring!

Things to remember when faced with challenges

6.) Challenges Make You Thrive

I don’t know about you, but when I am working towards a challenging goal I feel alive on all fronts!

Whether training for a race, learning more about marketing and running my own business, or trying something new (just signed up for a tap dance class!), I know I’m empowering myself to be my best and it feels great!

7.) You Are Your Harshest Critic

If a friend told you they did or tried the things you are, would you tell them it’s not enough? Of course not! Give yourself a break and recognize your efforts.

8.) There is Always an Area You Excel

You can’t be good at everything, but you are great at something. When you feel down about not measuring up in one aspect of your life, think about one thing – no matter how small – that you excel at.

9.) All Successful People Have Failures

Oprah Winfrey was publicly fired from her first anchor job. She didn’t start out as the Oprah we know today, but she didn’t let that stop her.

10.) It’s Never Too Late To Learn Something New

A report from the American Institute of Economic Research showed that 82 percent of respondents made a successful career change past age 45. I have personally met runners who are winning races after picking up the sport past age 40.

These are just a few examples of how you can commit to being a newbie and not good at something at any point in life, and find success and happiness in it.

More things to remember when you doubt yourself

11.) Think of How Far You’ve Come

Going back to our first point – you have to start somewhere – think of where you started when you get discouraged about where you aren’t.

When a client is down because they indulged in dessert over the weekend, we talk about how they did not have any treats during the week like they were doing a month ago. It’s all about progress, not perfection!

12.) Is It Worth The Worry?

Fretting over not being good enough, strong enough, smart enough, anything enough, is not going to make you better.

It’s a waste of your energy, so focus on the positive things about you and view the aspects of your life you would like to improve as just that; something to actively work towards.

13.) Trying and Failing is OK

It may be cliche, but failing truly is proof that you are trying. Learn something from each failure and use it to propel you forward instead of dwelling on how things didn’t work out.

If you do everything right the first time, you aren’t going to have any breakthroughs.

14.) Be Where You Are

Sounds a little Zen, but when you enjoy where you are instead of focusing on where you want to be, you’ll enjoy life so much more.

Life actually is a journey and not a destination, so look around and take in all that’s happening in the moment before it changes.

15.) You Are The Only You – No One Can Be Better

We often don’t feel good enough when we compare ourselves to others, but you don’t compare an apple to an orange. Welcome the things – good and not so good – that make you you, and realize that no one can do that better!

What other things to remember would you add?

If you feel like you’re not good enough, remind yourself of these 15 things and you’ll likely feel a lot more confident.

Do you have any other tips to help us stretch ourselves? What other things to remember would you add to the list? Feel free to share with us in the comment section below.

Each day is a gift, that’s why they call it the present. You know what that means? You’ve got to get out there and make the most of it!

If you’re not sure exactly how to go about making the most of your day, we’re here to fill you in with the 10 best steps to take to start every single day on the right foot. Ready, set, go!

How to make the most of your day

Wake Up Earlier

You don’t need to set your alarm for 4 am, but waking up just 20 minutes before you absolutely have to creates a more pleasant and relaxed start to your morning.

Use this time to do something for you; enjoy a quiet cup of coffee, eat breakfast at home, meditate, journal, lightly stretch, read, or call your mom.

Get Outside

Connect with the world around you and take a walk. With your family, your dog, your friend or alone, with or without a destination. Let the outdoors inspire and invigorate you!

Connect with a Stranger

Get out of your bubble and connect – really connect, not on social media! – with someone new. Compliment, ask an opinion, share an idea.

Reach out to an Old Friend

Connect with your past and someone who’s known you throughout different stages of your life. Remember simpler – or harder – times and gain perspective on your day while catching up with them. Call, text, write a letter.

Start a Plan for Tomorrow

Put one thing in motion for the next day. Doing something today to help you tomorrow, helps you feel in control of your plans and ahead of the game.

It could be as small as writing out an actionable to-do list or as big as setting an appointment.

Get an Endorphin Rush

Move your body in a way you enjoy everyday, and enjoy a natural endorphin rush sans caffeine. Go for a run, take a Zumba class, do yoga or just dance in your living room.

Listen to a Favorite Song

Music affects your mood and hearing songs you love has positive effects on the brain. Turn up your favorite jam and rock out!

Reflect on Yesterday’s Positives

We often make the mistake of dwelling on the past, but using yesterday’s events to propel today forward is worth your while.

Had a great time getting coffee with a friend yesterday? Shoot her a text and tell her how good it was to catch up. Coworker send you a congratulatory email for a project you just completed? Read it again!

Do Something for Someone Else

Doing things for others not only makes us feel good and purposeful, but makes their day as well. Make it a point to pay it forward each day.

From holding the door for someone to connecting friends professionally, you’ll create positive energy each day.

Laugh

We’ve learned time and again that laughter is the best medicine. It has similar effects to exercise, increases blood flow, relaxes the body and relieves stress. Whether through a movie, online videos, playing with kids or chatting with your funniest friend, get your dose each and every day.

Are you making the most of your days?

The kind of life you live will be determined by how your spend your days. For you to live life fully, you need to take charge and make the most of your day.

What are you doing to get the most out of your days? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

These 30-day challenge will boost your self-esteem and confidence so you can create more happiness and fulfillment in your life.

Self-esteem and self-compassion are not often talked about in mainstream media. Often, it’s mainstream media that plays an active part in feeding negative ideas about ourselves: from body image, to family and career success.

I regularly hear small comments from clients that are typically stated as jokes. But the more these things are thought and said, the easier they become ingrained in our beliefs.

Thoughts like, “maybe I can pull off this shirt if I lose this arm flab”, or, “I ate way too much of that dessert, no wonder I’m so fat”, and “I’ll never be able to do that many push-ups, I’m such a wuss”, may seem small and harmless. But each one chips away at your self-esteem and confidence.

But could there be a way to increase your self esteem after all the negativity?

How to increase your self esteem with the 30-day challenge?

Here are seven mini-challenges that will increase your self-esteem over the next month. Spend 2 or 3 days focusing on each challenge, while learning more about yourself. Have fun!

1.) First Challenge – Stop Negative Thoughts

This first challenge revolves around negative self-talk. This happens more than you realize. Pay attention to what you say to yourself over the next few days.

Each time you think something negative about yourself, write it down or text yourself. At the end of the day, use this worksheet to write these thoughts in the “Negative Thought” column.

Now challenge these thoughts. Write down a positive argument for each. For example, “I’m such a wuss” thought could be challenged with, “I’m stronger than when I started.” The “I’m so fat” thought could be challenged with “I make more healthy choices than unhealthy ones.”

Practice positive arguments throughout the week. If you keep at it, they will start to occur naturally.

2.) Second Challenge – Treat Yourself as a Friend

Reflect back on your negative thoughts from the past few days and think of the untrue things you told yourself. Now, visualize a close friend or family member (a younger cousin, a parent, a best friend, etc.) telling you these mean things about themselves.

Imagine they told you they don’t deserve dessert because they didn’t work out that morning. Imagine they tell you they won’t get a raise because they don’t work hard enough. That they won’t pass a test because they’re stupid.

Write them a letter about what they don’t see in themselves. Tell them all the wonderful qualities that you see in them. You won’t need to send this letter, but you can keep it tucked away to look at when you’re full of doubt.

Showing love to others is often easier than showing the same affection for ourselves. Stepping outside of yourself and putting your thoughts as someone else’s will help you see the bigger picture – and get out of the self-imposed limitations you may have created.

3.) Third Challenge – Give Yourself Permission

First, think (or write down) about a few fears, faults, or feelings of guilt, that are regularly on your mind. Take a few days to notice which ones pop into your head most often. Maybe you feel guilty for spending time away from your family to attend a work conference. Maybe you feel you get emotional too easily.

Now, chose ONE and write yourself a permission slip, such as:

  • I have permission to focus on my career.
  • I have permission to display my feelings.
  • I have permission to make mistakes.

You can be as creative as you want to. But write or type this permission slip and place it where you can see it regularly. Hang it by your desk, set it by your bedside, or keep it in your purse or briefcase. If you’d like to get crafty, the sky’s the limit. Create letters from construction paper, cut out images from magazines, use color, glitter, ribbon, texture – whatever you want!

When feelings of guilt and fear stop you from taking that next step, look at your permission slip and go for it.

4.) Fourth Challenge – Thank Your Flaws

No matter our shape, weight, height, etc., we ALL have body hang-ups. Some, you’ve held on to since childhood; others are newly formed and just popped up later in life. Over the next few days, you’ll confront them head on.

Write down your biggest body hang-ups. Be honest and open with yourself. Next, write a simple thank you to each trait. Some examples include:

  • My tummy – “Thank you for bearing my child”.
  • My big thighs – “Thank you for enabling me to walk, run, and dance”.
  • My loud laugh – “Thank you for spreading my happiness“.
  • My height – “Thank you for making me stand out”.

There will always be parts of you that, at times, aren’t your favorite. But these parts make up who YOU are.

How you view and treat them is in your control. Teaching yourself to embrace these aspects of yourself is a much better use of your time and energy than worrying about what you aren’t. It’s also a great exercise to increase your self esteem.

5.) Fifth Challenge – Map Out Your Personal Timeline

It’s easy to get caught up in the struggles you’re going through now. It may feel impossible to overcome them, and it’s easy to forget all the positive things you’ve experienced up to now. With a constant stream of awesome things going on in other people’s lives, it’s easy to think your life doesn’t compare.

In this challenge, you will create a personal timeline. This can be written on paper or compiled digitally. Start with your birthday, listing all the things that happened as you aged. Be careful not to filter out what you think others wouldn’t find impressive or important. This timeline is to reflect what stands out to YOU. You may have things like, “started my first job”, or “hung a shelf by myself”!

Include accomplishments as well as things you struggled with. Maybe you went away to college, only to transfer home after a semester. That must have been a tough time and a big decision – but don’t ignore it.

The purpose of this exercise is to have a reference to look back on when you feel you have nothing exciting happening in your life. It’s also helpful when you’re struggling with an issue you just can’t see the end of.

Look behind you and see all the amazing things you’ve done, all the big decisions you’ve made, and the obstacles you’ve overcome. Hopefully, this will increase your self esteem with time.

6.) Sixth Challenge – Recognize the Roots of Who You Are

You can be super creative with this challenge! You can get your craft supplies out, or go the basic pen-and-paper route.

First, make a list of your fundamental beliefs, values, and traits. Next, list new strengths and skills you’ve acquired growing up. Then, write your goals, dreams, and aspirations.

Your project for the next couple of days is to create a tree out of these words and concepts. Your fundamental beliefs, values, and traits make up the deep roots and trunk. Your gained strengths and skills are the branches that hold onto the goals, aspirations, and dreams that make up the leaves.

This tree represents you from what you were born with, to what you are now, and what you want to be. Dream big: your tree can have as many leaves as it needs!

7.) Seventh Challenge – Set an Intention for the Day

Your last exercise begins first thing this morning. But don’t worry, you can start whenever you want to. When you wake up, set an intention for the day. This isn’t worded like goals of your to-do list. Rather, a personal action that will lead you towards your big goals and ideal self. For example:

I intend to…

  • Love myself at my worst;
  • Spread a good mood;
  • Show patience with myself and others;
  • Show up;
  • Be open to change.

These will serve as your mantra for the day. Think of how you can use various tasks as an opportunity to move towards your intention.

How will you increase your self esteem

If low self-esteem is holding you back, use these challenges to change how you see yourself, everyday.

What else are you doing to increase you self-esteem? Do you have any other ideas to share with us? Let us know in the comment section below.

Creating happiness and fulfillment requires hard work. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

Everyone seems to want a shortcut to success. People wan’t to achieve their goals without pushing themselves and getting uncomfortable.

“Lose weight the easy way!”

“6 easy core exercises you can do at home!”

“Running is easy with this plan!”

“Try this recipe for an easy dinner for the whole family!”

If it was easy, everyone would do it…

The word “easy” is thrown around haphazardly, especially in the wellness field. As a Health Coach, my goal is to make things easier for my clients, but this doesn’t mean they are easy. I find myself replacing the word “easy” with “simple”.

A high intensity interval workout is a simple concept – short intense intervals followed by a recovery interval – but definitely not an easy workout! Chili may be a simple recipe, but preparing dinner for your family isn’t an easy thing to do, especially on top of a full time job!

Yet, we hear so often hundreds of “easy” tips to enhance your mood, your fitness, your diet, essentially your life. This leaves many people frustrated and upset when they can’t make these “easy tips” easily fit into their routine.

“If it was easy, everyone would do it”

…is a statement uttered, but not really considered when things are tough. Today, we are accustomed to quick and easy everything. If it’s an inconvenience, it’s unlikely to happen, and if there’s an easier way, we’ll take it.

But, when it comes to what really matters – family, friends, career, wellness, etc. – there are no shortcuts, no easy button. This is why it’s so impressive when someone makes a big life change!

Whether switching careers, ending a relationship, training for a marathon, or improving your eating habits, the steps you take may be simple in concept but tough to do. And that’s OK!

When I quit my job and followed my passion, I questioned if it was the right move. If I would be able to get clients, to write weekly posts, to learn the aspects of running a business.

But when I gave myself permission to be scared, when I recognized that these were the exact reasons many people never pursue a dream, things didn’t seem as daunting. I allowed it to be tough, and didn’t give into the fear of feeling uneasy.

I had a client come back after a few months break from getting married and work travel. About halfway through our workout she uttered, “This is tough! It’s so much harder than it should be!” I knew what she meant, she had built a great base when we last worked together, and after losing some fitness, this workout was more challenging than it would have been previously.

So I asked her, “Wouldn’t it be weird if today was easy?”. Getting back on track after a fitness slump is one of the hardest things to do. It’s why many people regain weight they’ve lost. If getting back into a fitness routine was easy, everyone would do it.

When you feel overwhelmed and defeated, repeat to yourself, “if this was easy, everyone would do it” and apply it specifically to your situation. When you feel something is tough, know that it’s not because you aren’t strong. Recognize that what you’re doing is hard, and you are a badass for forging ahead anyhow!

To earn the love of a cat is like no other, and these cat quotes will speak right to your crazy cat lover heart.

Many people love cats. According to figures by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Americans own between 74 and 96 million cats. That’s a huge number of people who love their feline friends.

Cat ownership has a number of benefits. Being a cat owner can fulfill your need for companionship, lower your stress levels, boost your energy, and create positive emotions.

Owning a cat is one of the best ways of coping during difficult times. They serve as a social support and can help you get over your loss more quickly. Besides, cats can keep you laughing with all the goofy things they do.

While cats need to be cared for like any other pet, they don’t need to consume much of your time. Unlike dogs, cats don’t need to be bathed, walked, or regularly let outside. Also, they are a relatively inexpensive companion that can fit in small spaces.

A home plays a vital role in human life. Home is the place where we keep our families, where we feel safe, and where we enjoy complete freedom. And if you have a happy family, there’s no place like home for complete comfort and peace of mind.

A good home is also necessary for proper health and well-being. A good house provides relaxation and protects from the harsh environment. And when we are tired after work or other activities, it’s home that we run to for rest and relief from stress.

For many people, the home is a loving, peaceful, and supportive environment in which to grow up and discover oneself. The home is not only a place for creating our life narratives and understanding our place in the world, but it’s also an important link through which we connect with the others and the universe at large.

For better or worse, there’s no place like home. Here’s our collection of inspirational, beautiful, and uplifting home quotes, home sayings, and home proverbs, collected from a variety of sources over the years.

The windows to the soul, this collection of eyes quotes will intrigue you to look past what you see.

Eyes are the windows to the soul. They don’t lie. They show the truth, no matter what face you put on. Just like body language, our eyes say more than we ever could with words.

The eyes can tell you a lot about another person’s emotional state. When you meet someone for the first time, the best way to get to know them is to look them in the eyes and observe what feelings they convey.

You can tell whether someone is sad or happy just by looking them in the eyes. The eyes can also reveal whether a smile is genuine or fake, whether or not someone trusts you, whether they feel secure, and much more.

Eyes are windows to the soul because they are the most honest part of the face. For example, we can control our mouths but we don’t have any control over our eyes. When you’re truly happy, your eyes become bigger and brighter involuntarily and give you away, but they look smaller when you’re sad and worried.

Eyes play an integral part in our lives. They not only allow us to see the beauty of our world, but they are the beginning to doing more. We should all celebrate them.

Below is our collection of inspirational, wise, and thought-provoking eyes quotes, eyes sayings, and eyes proverbs, collected from a variety of sources over the years. Enjoy!

Looking for ways to increase you morning motivation so you can get the most out of your day? Check out this guide with some helpful tips for anyone who wants to start their morning with motivation.

Each day is an opportunity for you to achieve real fulfillment and satisfaction in life, and starting each morning motivated is an excellent way to get the most productivity out of your day.

How to Increase Your Morning Motivation

Set an Intention

When you awake, set an intention for your day. This is not really a goal, but a feeling. Picture how you want to feel at the end of the day, what you want to get out of the day ahead of you.

Much like in yoga, an intention will help keep you grounded and focused when you become distracted and start to lose motivation. When you feel overwhelmed and unmotivated, bring yourself back to your intention and think of a small action you can take, or something from the present moment you can use to get closer to that intention.

A few of my favorites include an intention to:

Go forward with confidence

Accept myself without judgement

Live fearlessly

Lift up others

Create an Actionable, Realistic To-Do List

For a to-do list to be actionable, and therefore useful, each item needs to be a specific thing you can reasonably do. If you’re going on a 10-day tropical vacation which includes renting a car, booking a hotel and securing scuba-diving lessons, writing “plan vacation” on your list is not reasonable.

It won’t get done in one day and there are so many things to do you’ll be overwhelmed with where to start. Instead, write, “get rental car and plane ticket quotes”. This is specific and can be accomplished that day.

Either write your to-do list before you go to bed, or first thing when you get up. Here’s the kicker, only write – or star – 3 items. This serves two purposes; you have instant clarity on what you should be working on and if you have a packed day and can only do 3 small things, you’ll feel accomplished because you got the pre-determined most important tasks done.

With that said, these 3 tasks should be things you can actually accomplish that day. Set yourself up for success by truly accounting for the time they will take. It’s unmotivating to not completely finish something and unsure where to start or what you should be working towards.

Move in a way you love

According to the Mayo Clinic, exercise has been shown to decrease stress in a number of ways, from increasing self-confidence to bumping the feel-good neurotransmitters or endorphins. Sounds like a great way to start your morning motivation to me!

It’s understandable if you don’t have time to go to BodyPump or get a run in before your day really gets going, but don’t think of this advice only in terms of traditional heart-pumping exercise.

Instead, find a way to move at the start of your day that you truly enjoy. A half hour walk with the dog or 15 minutes of yoga can boost your endorphins, get your creative juices flowing and leave you motivated to take on the rest of the day!

How are you going to increase you morning motivation?

By starting your morning with motivation, you’ll be in a better position to conquer the rest of the day. Hopefully, the above tips will help you start your morning with a bang.

What are you doing to boost your morning motivation? Do you have any other strategies to add? Feel free to share your ideas in the comment section below.

Are you dissatisfied with your body? If yes, keep reading to discover some things you can do to love yourself more. Learn how to stop hating yourself and start finding lasting happiness.

While it’s unrealistic to think we’ll always be 100% happy with our looks, freeing yourself from a constant loop of self-imposed negativity is absolutely possible. Here’s how to get started!

How to stop hating yourself

Below are some tips on how to stop hating yourself and being your own worst enemy:

Confront What You Don’t Like and Challenge It with Appreciation

We all have negative thoughts about our bodies at one point or another; we’re human. The thing is – if not confronted – these thoughts and feelings are poison to our self-esteem and deeply affect our confidence and happiness.

In my post, Are You A Bully?I go into detail about a variety of negative thoughts, but the takeaway is recognizing how often these thoughts arise and confronting them with a positive challenge.

For example, “Look at how much my thighs rub together, gross!”, can be challenged with, “These thighs enable me to walk, run, and dance.” It won’t seem natural at first, and that’s OK! The more you challenge these negative thoughts with positive appreciation, the easier they will be to ignore and, eventually, the less they will happen. For your own “Negative Thought/Positive Argument Worksheet”, click here!

Start Celebrating Your Strengths

Like a ripple in a lake, loving the hell out of one part of your body – no matter how small – will have an impact on how you view the rest of you. Pick one part of you that you’re happy with. Be it your long legs, full lips, or strong arms, celebrate it!

Accentuate that aspect of yourself when you get dressed, focus on it intensely in the mirror when you’re lifting weights, and think of it each and every time you have a negative thought about another part of you.

Start looking for another small thing you like and allow yourself to get comfortable feeling confident about it. Again, the more you practice these actions, the easier they will become.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

The media certainly doesn’t help us with articles like, “who wore it better”, but comparing ourselves to others is a huge waste of energy! Judging yourself as worse than someone else, damages your sense of self.

You view yourself in a negative light and stop seeing your positive qualities. By spending our time dwelling on what we aren’t, we’re spinning our wheels and not getting any closer to what we actually want.

Instead, focus on your personal goals for where you are now. If the body you’re comparing yours to is prepping for a figure competition and you’re aiming to fit into your pre-pregnancy pants, that is not your goal!

Only picking apart what you don’t have, don’t do, and don’t look like, is fruitless and drags down your self-esteem and self-confidence. When you choose to focus on what you have done and are able to do, your confidence will grow and the things you do not have won’t matter as much. Surround Yourself With Positive Powerful People

During a recent session, a client brought up that she went out to dinner with some friends a few years younger than her. “They were all talking about this new diet, or how they were trying to lose a few pounds”, she told me. “And I was bored with it. I don’t want to talk about that anymore!” I loved how she recognized this in the moment!

When you’re around others who routinely pick themselves apart, you’ll start to pick yourself apart. The size of your jeans may have zero impact on your day. The thought of them may not register as something to spend any time thinking about.

But, if you’re with 3 friends who are constantly talking about wanting to go down a size, or how they hate being size X, you’re going to start comparing your size with that, and debating if it’s good enough.

However, when you’re with people who celebrate their wins, and brush aside worry about how they look from the outside, only to replace it with confidence with how they feel on the inside, you will be unstoppable!
