With just days remaining until the official start of football season, the National Football league (NFL) announced a new partnership with rapper, activist, music mogul and businessman Jay-Z. Through the agreement, Jay-Z will have influence over the Superbowl half-time show, which is one of the most widely viewed television events of the year with nearly 70% of televisions in U.S. homes tuned in to the broadcast.

NFL reps say they hope the deal helps “nurture and strengthen community through music and the NFL’s inspire change initiative.”

The NFL, it’s commissioner, and some team owners have come under fire in recent years for their reactions to controversy involving players kneeling during the national anthem. That has prompted several popular music artists to reject invitations to perform during the Super Bowl half-time show.

In addition to helping advise and coordinate the Super Bowl half-time show, Jay-Z’s new deal also makes him the headliner of the NFL’s new social activism campaign ‘Inspire Change.’ ‘According to the NFL website, Inspire Change was designed to foster economic and educational advancement, improve police and community relations, and support criminal justice reform.

If you follow Cardi B on Instagram, you might recall a post she published a few weeks ago, asking fans which political issues they are most interested in and what questions they’d ask our next president if given a chance. The rapper was polling fans for questions to ask during an upcoming meeting with presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders.

In a sit-down interview, Sanders and Cardi B discussed wages, the economy and unemployment. During the discussion, the rapper reflected on her own childhood growing up in New York and feeling like it was hard to make enough money to pay rent, get transportation and eat.

Sanders acknowledged the importance of this issue, saying tens of millions of people are living on what he describes as “starvation wages.”

Sanders is a senator in Vermont who ran for president in 2016. He is among 20 Democrats vying for a chance to challenge Donald Trump for the presidency in 2020.

Singer and Songwriter John Legend is best known for his soulful ballads and electrifying lyrics. Most people don’t realize this music superstar is from the small Midwest town of Springfield, Ohio – located about 30 minutes northeast of Dayton, Ohio, a community that was rocked by a recent mass shooting

During his visit, the Ohio native spoke out about gun violence. Legend joined Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley during a brief press conference imploring residents to take action. He encouraged people to contact legislators, speak out and protest the laws that make it possible for assault weapons to get into the wrong hands.

The singer also suggested a ban on the sale of semi-automatics and other military-style weapons. He also called on the U.S. Senate to address a gun background check bill that passed in the House of Representatives five months ago.

During this visit to his home state Legend supported local businesses in the Oregon District and performed a few of his songs at a local bar.

A building fire scorched nearly all of the uniforms, pads and helmets worn by players on the Magnolia High School football team. The public school, located in Anaheim, California experienced a building fire impacting their equipment room. About a month before the start of the season, the team’s coach learned of this loss.

News of the fire spread throughout orange County and eventually, the news got on the radar of the Los Angelo’s chargers. The Chargers invited players and coaches of the Magnolia High School team to training camp, where they presented the team with a $10,000 donation to replace the equipment that had been lost in the fire.

Former long-time Chargers broadcaster Hank Bauer is an alumnus of Magnolia High School, giving the team an extra special connection to this area high school.

At first glance, wrestling, healthcare and education may not seem to have a lot in common, but in Florida leaders in these three fields came together in a big way to benefit local students. WWE Superstar Titus O’Neil, with the help of a crew of volunteers and supporting agencies, donated more than 15,000 backpacks to students in Hillsborough County, Florida.

This one-day event provided more than just school supplies. Several community organizations volunteered to provide free dental work, haircuts, immunizations and physicals for students on-site. This helps save parents time and money, making sure their kids have a one-stop-shop to get back-to school ready.

O’Neil says he organized this event to get kids excited about the new school year. He says it’s an honor to help provide this experience for students and help their families with key resources, as he was once in their shoes.

“I grew up in a single-parent home under very unfortunate circumstances and [there are] a lot of things that we couldn’t afford. My mom couldn’t afford eyeglasses, she couldn’t afford physicals, so sometimes we were excluded from playing sports,” O’Neil said.”

Leaders with the Hillsborough Education Foundation say an estimated 98,000 families in the county need help paying for school supplies. The back-to-school drive led by O’Neil helps meet the needs of a significant portion among that group.

How To Go from Doing The Bare Minimum To Exceptional Work Ethic https://everydaypower.com/from-mediocre-to-exceptional-work-ethic/ https://everydaypower.com/from-mediocre-to-exceptional-work-ethic/#respond Fri, 16 Aug 2019 13:00:00 +0000 http://dev.everydaypowerblog.com/from-mediocre-to-exceptional-work-ethic/ Your work ethic speaks volumes about you. Here's how to strengthen yours!

The post How To Go from Doing The Bare Minimum To Exceptional Work Ethic appeared first on Everyday Power.

Running on empty at work just doesn’t cut it. Keeping up just for the paycheck, but your heart is missing when the pen hits the paper, isn’t worth it. Stop counting the minutes until quitting time; when even in those moments, nothing is really getting done.

When you don’t love what you do OR haven’t motivated yourself to be totally into work, it’s really hard to avoid giving the bare minimum.

How To Go from Doing The Bare Minimum To Exceptional Work Ethic

Learning to love what you do isn’t as easy when you’ve already grown to really dislike it. Whatever steps you took down the gloomy path of being mediocre – instead of the greatness you once hoped for – takes effort to reverse.

The trick to turning things around sometimes is in another job. But often, it’s right in the mirror. Motivation is a huge piece of the puzzle. But changing how you feel is not easy. It starts with imagining yourself in a better place in your job. It begins with improving your work ethic.

Be specific about the things you want to do better at and build a picture of success. Then re-arrange your life to fit the new picture.

How To Go from Doing The Bare Minimum To Exceptional Work Ethic

1) Organize your time better

Change is NOT going to happen overnight. It is going to take planning, networking, and pushing to change bad habits.

It didn’t take overnight to get you to be less than productive at work. Therefore, it is going to take a while to dig a new reality for yourself. Start by being organized at how you spend time both on and off the clock.

Being too tired and buried in disorganization will hinder anybody from seeing clearly down the road in front of them. It just builds frustration and disappointment. You’re never able to meet deadlines or keep up because you forgot something, or you can’t find a paper in your files.

Taking your work ethic from the bare minimum to exceptional begins with organization. You need a calendar, desk organizers, and time management techniques to getting the most important tasks done first.

2) Find a support system

You need people around you that believe in you. The greatest challenge we have at work and at home is when people see less, instead of more, of your abilities.

It’s hard to see yourself for who you really are when you’re constantly on the defense from a bad boss or a disrespectful coworker. Also, when there is trouble at home. You have to start with a little hope and faith in yourself – even if other people don’t see it. Then eventually, when other people DO see it, they drop out of the equation and your REAL supporters will step up.

If you really look for the best in coworkers instead of how you can be better than them, you’ll find they will help, instead of hurt, your progress towards the next big promotion.

Whatever is going on at home can also have a big impact on your performance and work ethic. Working parents often come home to dirty laundry, they have to make dinner, or calm tantrums. Keeping up with these can affect your productivity at home.

Happiness at home will always contribute to happiness in the office. Helpful family members, or the nanny or Au Pair can keep things together, especially young moms trying to keep their head above water.

3) Love what you do

The difference between resenting the time you spend at work, versus enjoying what you do is like night and day.

When you change the direction with the power of positive thoughts and good old-fashion passion, this is when things change. What happens when the winds start to change the direction of the sail is they fill with air – and hope. All the sudden, things pick up at work. Your work ethic goes from being the bare minimum to exceptional.

When you love what you do, you perform in extraordinary ways. Your mind doesn’t stop. It doesn’t slow down. Ideas and ways to conquer new challenges at work are going to come more readily than they had before, when the clock was ticking and every moment was meaningless.

Sometimes, the problem is work. But more often, the problem is because it is hard to keep things new and fresh. After a while, you might not perform like you did those first few years out of college. Life experiences can drown motivation.

Without persistence and consistent effort to staying organized, surrounding yourself with people who believe in you, and learning to love what you do, your work ethic will be half-baked. That might cause you to feel the same way about yourself eventually.

Rise above it and make everything you do – and every job you complete – extraordinary.

We need only in cold blood act as if the thing in question were real, and it will become infallibly real by growing into such a connection with our life that it will become real. It will become so knit with habit and emotion that our interests in it will be those which characterize belief.” He also said,”If you only care enough for a result, you will almost certainly attain it. If you wish to be rich, you will be rich. If you wish to be learned, you will be learned. If you wish to be good, you will be good – only you must, then, really wish these things, and wish them exclusively, and not wish at the same time a hundred other incompatible things just as strongly.”

The best quotes about embracing change

21.) “You have a right to experiment with your life. You will make mistakes. And they are right too. No, I think there was too rigid a pattern. You came out of an education and are supposed to know your vocation. Your vocation is fixed, and maybe ten years later you find you are not a teacher anymore or you’re not a painter anymore. It may happen. It has happened. I mean Gauguin decided at a certain point he wasn’t a banker anymore; he was a painter. And so he walked away from banking. I think we have a right to change course. But society is the one that keeps demanding that we fit in and not disturb things. They would like you to fit in right away so that things work now.” ― Anaïs Nin

The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”  ― Jon Krakauer

People are afraid of change, afraid of being different, afraid of doing things and thinking things that aren’t a part of their checkerboard game of a life. They only know the pieces and the moves in their games, and that’s it. You’re always going to find them in the place that you think you’re going to find them in, and every time they think about you, you’re going to give them a heart attack.” – C. JoyBell

36.) “See if you can catch yourself complaining, in either speech or thought, about a situation you find yourself in, what other people do or say, your surroundings, your life situation, even the weather. To complain is always non-acceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself into a victim. When you speak out, you are in your power. So change the situation by taking action or by speaking out if necessary or possible; leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness.” – Eckhart Tolle

We need to create change for ourselves, in a workable way, as part of our everyday lives.”  Sharon Salzberg

But I don’t want it anymore, I want something else now, something warm and sheltering, something I can turn to, regardless of what I do, regardless of who I become. Something that will just be there, always, like tomorrow’s sky. That’s what I want now, and I think it’s what you should want too. But it will be too late soon. We’ll become too set to change. If we don’t take our chance now, another may never come for either of us.” ― Kazuo Ishiguro

Life can feel impossible sometimes. Discover what to do when you feel like giving up.

While giving up seems to be the easy thing to do, it is in fact, easier to continue on the path to your goals. Many people have a tendency to give up because they don’t have direction. It is possible that they lack a plan as well.

when you feel like giving up

While there may be a myriad of reasons as to why a person gives up, I would like to discuss seven things to help you go forward without the fear, anxiety and worry of NOT completing your goals.

You must remember that your goals are very important. You were the one who thought of them and wanted to complete them. Thus, you must resist the urge to simply abandon them.

Here are seven things to do when you feel like giving up

1.) Start with a Plan

Planning is extremely important when you are setting out to complete a goal. During this time, you will have an idea of what you want and how you will go about completing your goals.

Divide tasks into manageable steps. This will also help you gauge your progress. When you have created measurable steps, it’s easier to see how far away or how close you are to your dreams.

The ultimate end result should ALWAYS be the completion of the goal. There are times when we worry about stuff that makes us angry or frustrated, instead of the task at hand. Understand that there are small obstacles that will come your way – but you have to continue to move forward.

2.) Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Things To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

We must remember that “life” happens – and it will also continue to happen. You need to realize that you can’t be worried about every single negative thing that happens. Know that you have everything inside you that you need in order to make your life better.

When you focus on what you have and NOT on things you don’t, you’ll feel a sense of gratitude and appreciation. Thus, the universe can provide you with more of what you want. So don’t sweat the small stuff.

When you lose focus on the goal and start sweating the small stuff, this is when you feel like giving up. So stay the course. This is accomplished by not worrying or being overly anxious about things that may come up while working on your goals.

3.) Surround Yourself with Positive People

Being around positive people will help jump-start your activity in a way that you will continue on the path of success. Positivity is contagious. It will encourage you to keep going when you feel like giving up. Positive people will bring life to your goals, plans, and your very existence.

Having such amazing people in your corner will not only encourage you, but they will also help you see that other people genuinely believe in you. This will help you realize how valuable you really are.

Also, positive people usually encourage others to such a degree that they complete their goals mainly because they don’t want to let the “positive person” down.

Positive people hold you accountable for the things you say you want to do. They expect the greatness that you have inside of you to be pushed out into the world!

4.) Know the Difference between Inspiration and Motivation

Things To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

I hope to share my perspective on this so that people can see the difference between the two, as well as their importance. In a nutshell: Motivation is temporary, whereas Inspiration is long-term.

People can motivate you to jumpstart your efforts in completing goals. This is needed in order to assist a person in at least starting. Oftentimes, motivation lasts only a short period of time. There needs to be something sustainable to take its place.

This is where inspiration comes in. It is mainly about the “cause”. Inspiration will give you the “reason” why you are doing what you’re doing.

Inspiration shows you that even though it may be tough, you know that you can save lives, change someone’s way of thinking, help others see from a different – or even better – perspective, or possibly assist people to become a better version of themselves.

5.) Realize Your Strength and Your Power in Any Situation

Many times, people have a tendency to give up because they don’t realize their own strength and power. If you have not read it today, let me be the first to tell you: YOU ARE AWESOME AND AMAZING!!!

Your strength comes from within. Tap into your strength on those days when you feel like giving up. You must understand that there are going to be tough times – but that does not mean that you should give up.

Giving up on your goals means that you are not only giving up on yourself, but you are also preventing others from having the opportunity to have a fulfilling life.

Let me explain: We live in a “service driven society”. Everything we do provides a service for ourselves or for someone else. If you give up on your goals, your “gift” that should be presented to the world will not help others as it is intended to do, because you failed to complete your goals.

In turn, you have prevented someone from seeing how your gift can improve their lives! That may sound like a lot of responsibility but we must remember that it is our very existence.

There are people in your life just waiting for you to reach success – so that they may understand that they have the ability to be just as successful!

6.) Allow Time To Re-Evaluate Your Goals

Things To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

There may be times when you might want to take a look at your goals from a different vantage point. The assistance of a mentor, or someone you value, can come in handy. They can help you see what needs to be corrected or changed.

Re-evaluating your goals keeps you focused on the task you want to complete. It also helps you to understand your purpose. Having purpose will help you see that the actual goal is not about you.

Prolific speaker Zig Ziglar once stated:

“If you help enough people get what they want, then you will get what you want”.

Understand how vital your purpose is, especially when you feel like giving up. Re-evaluation will help you have a greater understanding of what you are doing, as well as WHY you are doing it!

7.) Learn to be “Outcome Focused” and NOT “Process Oriented”

Many of us have been trained by schools and various organizations to think about the “process of things. While it is good to think about it (in a mathematical equation, for example) sometimes, life is different.

If we stay concerned about the procedure, when it gets tough, we will give up. The reason for this is: having more focus on the process and not on the outcome will prevent us from continuing. We must realize how important it is for us to stay focused on the ultimate goal.

When people are Outcome Focused, they have a tendency to not be so concerned about what other people are doing, or what trials they may face. It is their perspective that the goal is right ahead.

Outcome Focused individuals have fire inside of them that keeps burning. They understand that the ultimate desire is to maintain focus so that the end result is success!

When you feel like giving up, realize that it’s the easier path – but to continue will make your life better. If you have a desire to improve yourself by focusing on what you want, then you must keep going. You can do anything that you put your mind to. There is nothing too hard if you just stay focused!

7 Signs You Are Truly a Hopeless Romantic https://everydaypower.com/signs-hopeless-romantic/ https://everydaypower.com/signs-hopeless-romantic/#respond Thu, 15 Aug 2019 13:00:00 +0000 http://dev.everydaypowerblog.com/signs-hopeless-romantic/ Wondering if you're a hopeless romantic at heart? We have 7 telltale signs...

The post 7 Signs You Are Truly a Hopeless Romantic appeared first on Everyday Power.

Are you afraid you might be a hopeless romantic?

Trust me, I understand. Over the years, the members of our tribe have gotten a really bad rap. Our core beliefs have been reduced to sickeningly sweet made-for-television movies, tear-jerking commercials for chewing gum, and poorly written poetry.

7 Signs You Are Truly a Hopeless Romantic

It’s hard to be a hopeless romantic in a world of swipe-right/ghost later relationships, but I know that you’re still out there. You may be hiding behind your computer screens or cowering in the dark shadows of the disenchanted, but I know you’re out there. I see you and it’s time that you stepped into the light.

These are 7 signs that you are a card-carrying, hopeless romantic:

1) You Are Agonizing Over The Slow, Painful Death of The Rom-Com

When you think about the last authentic romantic comedy you adored, you get lost somewhere between Love Actually (2003) and The Proposal (2009). You believe that Nicholas Sparks has been the worst thing to happen to the Rom-Com since you got duped into watching The Notebook.

It’s not that you can’t appreciate a good tear-jerker now and again. But you’re tolerance for illness and death in a good romantic comedy stops at Four Weddings and a Funeral. And no one will be able to convince you that Seth Rogen is the next Ryan Gosling no matter how many hot actresses are cast as his girlfriend.

2) You Keep Your Heartbreak Playlist Updated and Ready on Cue

Remember the last time you thought you had met the one until they said they wanted to see other people? Then “other people” turned out to be a co-worker they had already seeing for weeks? What can you do besides cuddle up with your cat and/or a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, and listen to sad breakup songs on repeat until you’re ready to face the world again?

A hopeless romantic’s playlist goes through all five stages of grief: denial (Don’t Speak, No Doubt), anger (You Oughta Know, Alanis Morissette), bargaining (Please Don’t Leave Me, Pink), depression (Back to Black, Amy Winehouse), and finally acceptance (Someone Like You, Adele).

A special shout-out to Mariah Carey who has wrote the unofficial handbook on unrequited love with every single one of her albums. Yes, Mariah, we do belong together.

3) You Have a Secret Board on Pinterest for Your Wedding

This one is for the ladies because you know what I’m talking about: you’ve picked out your wedding dress (several times), researched a few venues, the table settings, the cake, the flowers, the honeymoon— all of it. You may have even started a gift registry.

And so what if you’re not even dating someone right now. You’ve pinned some pictures of what the groom might look like, too. A girl can dream, can’t she? At least no one will accuse you of being unprepared.

4) Valentine’s Day Means Nothing To You

That’s right. To a hopeless romantic, Valentine’s Day is for amateurs who pick ONE day in February to atone for their year-long neglect of their significant other. We don’t need no stinkin’ holiday to show affection; Valentine’s Day is our lifestyle.

Romance is in our genetic makeup. Dinner by candlelight? Because it’s Tuesday. Unexpected gift? Because we saw it in the window and we knew you’d like it. We sent flowers to your office just to brighten up your day. Hot sex and bubble baths? Whenever we get in the mood!

Cupid? PleaseWE ATE CUPID FOR BREAKFAST AND CRAPPED HIM OUT IN ROSE-SCENTED TURDS!!! Don’t even talk to us about Valentine’s Day.

5) In Fact, You Are Cupid Incarnate

Even if you haven’t met your soulmate yet, you LOVE hearing stories about how couples met. Perfect strangers seem to gravitate towards you and tell you their stories. You understand it’s all just a matter of being at the right place at the right time. It could happen for you at any moment.

In the meantime, tell your friends to please ignore that collection of self-help books you’ve been gathering on the shelf.

Does your friend want you to be their Maid of Honor or Best Man? Yippee!! Where do you sign?! You will throw the best Bachelor/Bachelorette party ever known to man. It’s most likely that you introduced the bride to the groom anyway. Of course, you’ll make the first toast! Do they need any help writing their vows? You got this thing on lock.

6) You’ve Remained Friends with Most of Your Exes

Why? Because a hopeless romantic has a hard time letting go. You hang onto love letters, photographs, ticket stubs, gifts, and voicemails for way longer than you shouldIf those items become too painful to revisit, you will put them in a box and store it someplace safe.

It may take some time for your heart to heal, but eventually you forgive the ones who broke your heart and come to cherish the special time you spent together. The pull of a hopeless romantic is irresistible. And like lost sailors, your old lovers will return to your siren’s song.

You won’t trust them with your heart again, but will welcome their friendship with open arms.

7) You Never Give Up Hope

People may label you a hopeless romantic, but the word “hopeless” is NOWHERE in your vocabulary.

No matter how many times your heart is broken, you will eventually dust yourself off, pick yourself up and get back in the game. Without hope you would fall into despair, and despair is better left to cynics who never learn to love with an open heart.

Don’t listen to the haters. Hope is what converts what others might see as unrealistic into a dream of best-case scenarios. Meet-cutes aren’t as rare as they seem. Doesn’t every relationship begin with auspicious timing and a simple conversation? Of course they do.

If people call you a hopeless romantic, don’t be ashamed! Embrace it! We’re the ones who keep the dream of love alive. Grab your tissues, because you know Nicholas Sparks is probably out there adapting his latest ill-fated, tragic love story for film as we speak!

I hope his characters have their playlists ready on cue.

How about YOU, are you a hopeless romantic?

How to Answer The Question “What’s The Point of Life?” https://everydaypower.com/what-is-the-point-of-life/ https://everydaypower.com/what-is-the-point-of-life/#comments Thu, 15 Aug 2019 12:30:00 +0000 http://dev.everydaypowerblog.com/answer-whats-the-point-of-life/ If you've ever wondered what is the point of life, this will open your eyes fully.

The post How to Answer The Question “What’s The Point of Life?” appeared first on Everyday Power.

What is the point of life? Most people try to ignore this question for as long as possible because it scares them – it scares them as they can’t answer it.

They are insecure; terrified of uncertainty and not finding meaning in their days. It crushes their willpower to take action and dig deeper to find the answer.

what is the point of life

However, those who have goals, people who want to evolve, be better each day, they understand the principles the Universe is structured around. They live up to their potential, they keep seeking an answer.

I’m here to tell you what life is all about.

Too much overthinking won’t help you get where you want to be. There are enough success stories out there so that we can clearly define what success looks like. We need to strategize, find purpose, and go after it, day after day.

To stop you from wondering whether there’s an answer to this question or not, as well as to bring an end to the constant struggle of finding the point of life, here are some things to keep in mind to make sure you live meaningfully.

So, what is the point of life anyway?

1.) Remember that everything is a life lesson.

Whats is The Point of Life

One purpose of life is to teach you.

What exactly? That depends on what you’re ready for, what you need in order to level up, and what you secretly desire even though you don’t admit it to yourself. You are a student of life. That’s how it’s supposed to be.

Some, however, are overwhelmed with knowledge even before they graduate. They can’t wait to never learn a thing in their lives again once it’s over.

But that’s a bad lifestyle choice.

Once you get in that mentality, there’s rarely any way back. You start saying ‘NO’ to growing. You don’t want to try new things in order to get out of your comfort zone. You begin to avoid failure so you don’t work on big projects or aim high.

But all these – together with losing things, making mistakes, and experiencing negative stuff – are life lessons. They’re just hidden behind hardships and trials.

To enjoy life and make it easier (while continuously growing), you need to embrace life-long learning and become a better person. Whatever happens, learn from it. You won’t regret it and will feel more productive than ever.

2.) Choose peace and contentment.

what is the point of life

Another thing you should focus on if you want to see what happiness and success is all about, is mindfulness.

What’s that? It’s nothing more than spending time in the present moment. It’s about having little to no regrets about the past; not planning too much for tomorrow, then fearing things might go wrong.

Some time ago, before I decided to set priorities in my life, I was too attached to what others thought of me: to how things were supposed to be, to material possessions, and so many more wrong things. I was miserable because of all that.

The solution was so simple. I started practicing mindfulness. I read about the art of letting go, and realized I was rationalizing anything I was doing, so I didn’t do anything unconsciously.

Wow. What a change that was! It happened on the inside, but affected my reality more than ever.

All the meaning you’re looking for in life can be found in the present moment. Stop looking for it in things, people, memories, or dreams. All that isn’t sure – it doesn’t matter right now, and isn’t perfect.

What’s perfect is the NOW, with the person you are in this very moment, and all the opportunities around you. Embrace that.

3.) Leave something behind.

what is the meaning of life

Another thing you want make sure is to invest some of your time in leaving a legacy.

Some people think this sounds way too big, and is for whoever can afford it. Not at all. There are hundreds of small ways to contribute to the world, to help others, to be a role model, to do good, to leave a dent.

The benefits of helping others and living beyond yourself can’t really be explained, although even multiple studies prove their effects.

You need to see for yourself how it feels to give without expecting anything in return. And how, inexplicably, you receive more than you can imagine.

In my early 20s, I was all about taking more out of life, always asking what more it could give me and what more I can acquire in terms of possessions, experiences, feelings, etc.

It felt good for a while. Then, I was feeling empty on the inside. I was trying to fill this void with even more of what caused it.

Well, I decided to focus on helping others one day. From saying more compliments to loved ones, sharing what I have with people I knew, donating what I didn’t use to live a more minimalist lifestyle, to doing favors without expecting anything back, and more.

This was easy, simple, and satisfying. I actually liked this new version of myself so much that I tried volunteering in a local community, then online, helping in any way I could.

That was fantastic! I still do it every few weeks now that I’m in my 30s. It makes me even more mindful and grateful. It helps me find the point of life whenever I feel insecure.

4.) Be an individual.

At the end of the day, there’s ONE simple, but powerful answer to the question about the point of life: it’s that you can create it for yourself.

Everyone has different experiences, points of view, aspirations, and current fears or struggles. We have different paths to walk. It’s important to embrace this individuality.

Never allow yourself to live by somebody else’s standards. Do what feels right. If everything else doesn’t seem to be going right, this one approach can make it all worth it.

This includes acceptance. Accept yourself for who you are, together with your past, and who you can become in the future.

Accept life for what it is, and admit that it has limitations, too. That will help you stop expecting too much from it, and be happier with all that you have.

Keep learning and growing, giving and spending time in the present moment, but do it YOUR way. Don’t copy. Your potential is unique. By letting yourself be who you are meant to be, you can unleash it.

If you’re still wondering what is the point of life, Emerson’s poem is a big reminder of what it means to succeed in life and make the world a better place:

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
” – Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882) American Essayist & Poet

You Exist so You have Value

Emerson saw the purpose of life in a way that is closely aligned with American values. His philosophy encouraged self-reliance, independence, and resistance to society’s pressure to conform. He encouraged us to be true to ourselves as a unique representation of what it means to be human.

The philosophical pursuit of the answer to “What is the meaning of life?” remains too metaphysical for scientific inquiry with the tools available today. Psychology researchers focus on the impact finding meaning has on individuals, describing the meanings different people assign to their lives as well as describing the characteristics those meanings usually contain. Feeling one’s life is meaningful contributes significantly to well-being and health so how do you adopt a perspective that makes your life feel meaningful?

Our individual interpretation of whether our life is meaningful determines if we feel our life has significance. In the final analysis, you get to choose what makes your life meaningful.

Your Life Has Meaning Even if it is Unknown

Some philosophers, like Richard Taylor believe that our lives are meaningful because we exist. This concept has some merit. If you think about the effect your existence has on the world, it is enormous. Your existence changes other people’s actions and lives. Your presence has the potential to add enormous value to the world. You don’t have to do something that seems big for your life to have significant meaning. Loving someone is a meaningful activity.

There are many other examples. What if you were a kind stranger who made the difference in whether someone lived or died and the person you saved went on to make a significant contribution to humanity or conservation? Or the person you save later saves the life of someone who will make a big difference by something as simple as stopping them from walking into traffic in front of an oncoming bus when they’re distracted. A stranger saved me in exactly this way when I looked the wrong way in Australia.

Lifelong Learning

Several philosophers encourage finding meaning in the pursuit of knowledge. Others encourage examining one’s life. Socrates said the unexamined life wasn’t worth living. Modern philosopher, Casey Woodling, suggests that the unexamined life has no meaning which makes sense because we assign the meaning we find for our life and if we don’t spend time considering it, we won’t see that our life has meaning.

Roy F. Baumeister, a world renown sociologist and researcher concludes that a meaningful life has four properties including a purpose that guides our actions and gives us direction, values that allow us to know good from bad and allow us to see our life as good, and positive progress toward our purpose. He concludes that “A life will be meaningful if it finds responses to the four questions of purpose, value, efficacy, and self-worth. It is these questions, not the answers, that endure and unify.”

Over to YOU now.

What’s the point of life to you?
