How to do homework fast: 5 helpful tips

Published on November 13, 2014 2:55 PM EST

A major complaint that most students have is that they are given way too much homework. Today on average a 4th-grade kid gets a minimum of 5 subjects to cover each night. Experts suggest that a child should spend no more than 15 minutes solving assignments in the 1st grade. The number of tasks assigned will increase by 10 minutes with each new grade. But this does not mean that a high school student should spend more than 2 hours on their homework. Here are a couple of smart tips that will make it easier for you to complete your homework faster.

Avoid any distractions

The first thing you must do is to ensure that you always have a quiet and great place to do your homework. It could be your room or a library anywhere in the house where it is quiet. It should not have a lot of traffic moving in and out of the room.  You should also consider making the colors in this particular area neutral, so they are not destructing. Studies have shown that bright colors make it difficult to concentrate.  Ensure that your study area is well lit to make it easier for you to research and read.

Never feel tempted to work while in your bed. The truth is that even the slightest destruction could cause writer’s block and leave you stranded in the morning with uncompleted homework. Therefore, even if you have to do your work online, remember to only go to the links that will not distract you. You never want your attention to be stolen by the cute cat videos on YouTube.

Plan your homework

You must schedule your study time appropriately. This will give you a great plan to follow. You do not want to do your homework by randomly selecting the first thing that comes to your mind. If you have a schedule, you will be more productive, and you will achieve much more. Mark each subject that you complete so you know how many more you have left with. Instead of stopping to figure out what you ‘feel’ like reading next, you will glide smoothly to the next part.  Be realistic and give yourself some breaks between subjects so your brain can rest and focus.

Get everything you need

It will waste a lot of time if you have to keep getting out of your study table to go and get a book, some water or a snack. Therefore, before you go to the next subject fill that cup with water, get another fruit or chocolate bar and make sure that you have all the books you will need close to you. Before you start each assignment look at every one closely, what you need to complete them and keep it close to you.

Turn off your phone

Having friends is significant and essential, but they can also be distractions in the time of your studying. You can spend hours talking to them, replying to messages and liking their statuses on Facebook. By the time you are done, it is late, and you need a good night sleep. Therefore, turn the phone off or mute it, so you will not hear it ring. You can call everyone back once you have completed your homework. It will not get you the math homework help you need.

Eat and drink healthy

After a long day at school, your body needs to be refueled for it to work correctly. Most students ignore the power that eating healthy and being hydrated has on their productivity. It is essential for you to ensure that you have a snack that will give you the energy you need to complete all our homework. Instead of that coffee mug, consider sipping on some water. It will revitalize your brain and help you focus. Avoid sugary snacks that will cause a sugar rush and later burn you out so you cannot think and work.

Doing your homework does not have to be difficult. You only need to make the right choices and schedule your time so that you complete your homework faster.
