Ten ways to earn more money when you already have a full-time job

Everyone would love to have a few extra dollars in the bank, but not everyone knows how to get them.

For anyone that works a full-time job, the idea of making extra money seems impossible, but it can be done.

You don’t have to work another full-time job to make extra money.

How to earn extra money on the side

Ask for overtime

This is one of the easiest ways to make more money because it requires nothing other than asking for more hours.

Depending on your workplace, your boss might love to have someone work overtime, and may even offer extra money or incentives for overtime hours.

Not only will you add some extra dough to your wallet, but you boss will be impressed by your vigor and energy (maybe impressed enough for a raise).

If there are not any overtime opportunities, tell your boss to keep you in mind when there are some.

Get a weekend job

If you work a traditional Monday through Friday, then the weekends are the best time to earn a couple of extra bucks.

Places like retail stores, boutiques restaurants, or pizza places are almost always looking for a few extra helping hands on Saturdays and Sunday.

Start freelance work

Thanks to the Internet, freelance jobs can be found just about anywhere, and you can do most of them from home in your free time.

If you don’t know where to look, UpWork allows companies to post freelance job opportunities of just about any kind.

These jobs will vary in time requirements; skills required, and pay scales.

Depending on your skills, you can create a website for your freelance work.

Having a website will allow you to display your job experience and showcase some previous work that you’ve done.

Sell homemade goods

Sites like Etsy, EBay, and Craigslist offer plenty of opportunities to sell handmade goods.

You can sell anything from homemade décor, paintings, photography, or clothing.

All of the websites are easy to use and you can start selling your merchandise in a matter of moments.

Both Etsy and EBay will charge small fees on each transaction but offer platforms to reach shoppers across the world that you wouldn’t have otherwise.

Craigslist will not charge anything to post goods on the website, but you will be limited to reaching people in your area.

Sell old stuff

If you don’t want to make your stuff, sell the stuff you already have.

Just about every family has old books, old DVDs, electronics, clothes, and much more that they never use and will never use again.

Instead of having the old things take up space in your house, sell them to make a little extra money.

You can post your old stuff on Craigslist, sell it on EBay, or host a traditional yard sale.

Some of your items might be worth more than you think.

If you have any old furniture that you aren’t using, you can refinish it or spice it up and sell it for quite a nice chunk of change instead of having it collect dust.

Online surveys

Online surveys are a great way to make some side cash on your free time after work, on the weekends, or during your lunch break.

These studies are created by businesses or professional research companies and usually offer simple answers.

They can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour or longer depending on the survey.

There are dozens of sites that offer rewards for surveys from around the Internet.

Keep in mind that completing these online surveys will not rake in tons of money, but you can expect to make around $100 each month depending on how many you do.

Some surveys will also offer free products or will enter you into sweepstakes in addition to the small payment.

Peer-to-peer lending

Peer-to-peer lending has become of the most popular ways to earn extra money through investing.

Traditionally, investing was seen as something on “rich” or “wealthy” people did, but with peer-to-peer lending, it has opened the floodgates for anyone with a little extra money.

Luckily for you, peer-to-peer investing has never been easier.

The idea of peer-to-peer lending has been around for centuries, but technology has made it so that anyone can lend money to anyone.

Websites like LendingClub and Prosper make peer-to-peer as easy as setting up an online account and changing your investing preferences.

You don’t have to be a financial expert to start your investment portfolio on either of these sites, and the amount of money you make will depend on how much you invest and how high the risks are.

Be an Uber driver

Uber Driving is the newest and hottest way to make a couple of extra bucks when you aren’t working your full-time job.

For those who might not be familiar with Uber (and how could you not be?), Uber is a freelance taxi service that just about anyone can participate in.

The best part of Uber is that you can only have to drive people around when you want to.

You aren’t obligated to drive at any time.

The amount of money you’ll make depends on how much driving you do, how many passengers you pick up, and how far of distance you drive, but some people estimate that you can make anywhere from $8 – 15 an hour (not bad money for a side job).

Teach classes

If you have a particular skill or interest, you can teach classes online, in your home or a local community center.

These classes can be anything you are good at or something that you enjoy.

Many people will teach cooking lessons, yoga classes, business classes, or crafting classes.

The options are almost limitless, and the more popular the classes become, the more you can charge for them.

Rent out a room

Renting out a room can be a huge source of income if you have the extra room.

Depending on where you live, renting out your room can provide several hundred dollars in extra income every month.

College students are always looking for cheap places to live during the semester or the summer months in between semesters.

You can also rent out your room for travelers on sites like AirBNB.com.
