Affirmation is one of the most powerful and effective techniques anyone can leverage to achieve greater success and making their dreams come true.
In fact, studies have proven that affirmations work.
However, there are many people who have tried affirmations, but it didn’t work for them.
Well, does that mean that affirmations simply don’t work?
Not at all.
If it works for some, it will work for you, too, right?
Therefore, in this article, we will talk about five common reasons WHY your affirmations don’t work – and what to do instead.
How To Use Affirmations When They Don’t Work
The first factor that will determine if your affirmations will work is consistency.
Are you doing it often enough?
Or are you just doing them once in a while?
There is a saying:
“What you do once in a while is not as important as what you do everyday.”
If you want to know how to use affirmations work for you, you must practice it every day, and transform them into your habit.
You want to ‘install’ the ideas of achieving what you want into your subconscious mind.
Thus, you must do it consistently.
Studies have suggested that we do our affirmations once in the morning, and again at night before we sleep.
When we do it in the morning, it kick-starts our day and inspires us.
When we do it at night, we remind ourselves about what we want and we sleep with it.
Repetition is the mother of all skills.
If you want to get better at affirmations, you have to do it consistently, each day.
Don’t just do it once or whenever you feel like doing it.
Instead, create a plan and schedule it. Do it everyday.
When your affirmations become part of your life, your words will come alive.
Eventually, you will make them real.
This is why people often said, “Fake it until you make it.”
It’s the same in the case of affirmations. Practice it daily.
Are you doing the affirmations for the sake of doing it?
If you are not being serious enough, you will never feel the energy.
You will never get inspired.
Affirmations are just like pep-talk.
Professional athletes use pep-talk to boost their confidence before the match begins.
Affirmations work the same way.
You need to be serious when doing it.
If you are doing it for the sake of doing, then you are wasting your time.
You have to take it seriously.
Somehow, your affirmations are the things that you want in life.
If you are NOT being serious, do you really think that you can accomplish them?
Make sure you are committed to your affirmations.
When you decided that you are going to do it once in the morning and once at night, DO IT.
Put up a sticky note or set an alarm to remind yourself to do it.
Whenever it is time to do it, do it.
Do not delay and do not procrastinate.
After all, your character and how you treat your affirmations reflect your attitude about the things that you want.
Most people are not serious and are not committed with affirmations.
That is why affirmations don’t work for them.
In fact, it is NOT that affirmations don’t work – it is them that did not work.

Never forget on how to use affirmations to feel the energy.
The words do not mean anything to you, except the meaning you give them.
It is the emotion, the meaning, and the energy that you associate with your affirmations that make them powerful.
If you are just saying your affirmations in a boring and sleepy tone, guess what, they will never work for you.
You must incorporate emotions and energy into your affirmations.
You must feel the energy flowing in you.
If you do it once and you don’t feel anything, keep repeating the affirmation until you feel the energy flowing in you.
Of course, you need to be serious like what I have mentioned above.
At the same time, feel the emotion from your affirmations.
It is the emotion that will transform your state and give you energy.
For example: if your affirmation has something to do with being successful, feel the positive energy within.
You must act like you are already successful.
Here’s what you need to remember:
“To be successful, you must first see yourself as successful.”
4. Write Them Down
Another powerful technique on how to use affirmations more effectively is to write them down.
The famous and successful cartoonist, Scott Adams, said that he writes down his affirmations 15 times every day.
He writes, “I, Scott Adams, will become a famous cartoonist.”
He does this for 15 times straight.
Somehow, it works.
His mind makes it real because he is so committed and he visualized himself as a famous cartoonist.
So should you write down your affirmations or should you say them out loud?
My suggestion is to do both.
Since this activity did not cost you anything except a couple of minutes of your time, why not do it everyday?
This is exactly what I did each day, too.
After I wake up and brush my teeth, I will drink a cup of water, and then I will start to write down my affirmations.
While in the process of writing, I will say them out loud as well.
5. Believe In Them
Finally, you must believe in your affirmations.
There is no point to do it everyday if you do not believe in them in the first place.
Do you think that you can achieve your dreams if you don’t believe in them yourself?
Successful people believe in their dreams and themselves.
This is why they are able to unleash their inner potential to achieve outstanding results in life.
If you don’t believe in your goals and dreams, nobody would.
When you truly believe in something, you will take action and do it.
People who fail to accomplish their goals and dreams do NOT take action, simply because they don’t truly believe that it is possible for them to achieve what they want.
Let me ask you this: will you buy a lottery ticket if you don’t believe that you are going to win? The answer is a NO.
People buy lottery tickets because they believe that there is a chance for them to win.
The same goes on how to use affirmations.
If you don’t believe that you can achieve what you affirm, you will never take action.
If you 100 percent believe that you are going to build a successful business, do you think you will go ahead and take massive action?
The answer is an absolute YES.
You know you are going to be successful.
You know you will never fail.
And you take action because you believe that it is possible for you to achieve it.
Therefore, believe in yourself and your affirmations.
Take action and work on them.
You will soon see the results coming.
These are the five most common reasons your affirmations don’t work.
Now that you understand how to use affirmations, apply these ideas here and start to materialize what you say to yourself everyday.
