Walmart Inc is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, and was formerly known as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

The superstore, or hypermarket, was founded in 1960 in Rogers, Arkansas, by Sam Walton and his brother James “Bud” Walton.

The stores were founded when Sam purchased a store that was formerly a Ben Franklin store and started selling products at very low prices, with an eye on selling a high volume.

He believed this business idea would help the consumer and make his stores profitable.

Within the first five years of business, Walmart expanded to 18 stores in Arkansas.
