When the Indian Ambassador to the U.S., Binay Ranjan Sen, and his wife visited California, Yogananda attended a banquet for them at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

There he gave a speech, then lifted his eyes and slumped to the floor dead.

However, his death was mysterious as mortuary annals showed no sign of decay for three weeks after his death until he was interred at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
