In New York, most people don’t have cars, so if you want to kill a person, you have to take the subway to their house. 50. “Cities are distinguished by the catastrophic forms they presuppose and which are a vital part of their essential charm. How did Los Angeles get its name?

We live in a multi-dimensional world and often get multi-sided origin stories.

When looking into the history of how the city of Los Angeles got its name, we run into different accounts.

LA historian Doyce B. Nunis Jr’s research suggests that the city’s original name was El Pueblo de la Reyna de los Angeles.

Los Angeles was founded in 1781.

Nunis has found historical documents dated as early as 1877 that show the above name.

At the same time, historical archivist Francis J. Weber argues the original name was El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora de los Angeles de Porniuncula.

The origin story is important; however, people have referred to the city as Los Angeles for several hundred years.

Today, LA is one of the world’s top destinations.
