Like many drill artists, Durk’s childhood was as dark as the genre.

Durk’s father was sentenced to life in prison when Durk was just a baby and he grew up in poverty in the South Side of Chicago.

When Durk became a father as a teenager, he dropped out of high school and joined the gang, Black Disciples.

Durk has had his share of tragedy as well.

In 2014, Durk’s cousin and fellow rapper, McArthur “OTF Nunu” Swindle, was murdered.

Less than a year later, Durk’s manager was killed by gunfire.

In 2020, Durk’s close friend, King Von, was also murdered.

Durk has honored the loss of his friends in his album The Voice.
