In The Four Hour Body Ferris shows that it is possible to build an exceptional body in a short amount of time. He did tons of experiments on his body in order to determine what helps the body grow most efficiently.

After the success of The Four Hour Body, Ferriss published another book called The Four Hour Chef. It focused on living a great lifestyle and provided many quick delicious recipes. As with all his other books, it debuted at number one on the New York Times bestsellers list.

Tim Ferriss Quotes from Tools of Titans

1. “The fishing is best where the fewest go, and the collective insecurity of the world makes it easy for people to hit home runs while everyone else is aiming for base hits. There is just less competition for bigger goals.” – Tim Ferriss

Everyday Application: Many of us have big dreams and goals, but we aren’t serious about them. Those people that do the work, make the sacrifices, and put themselves out there are more likely to succeed simply because the number of people who actually make their dreams a priority is much smaller. If you want something bad enough, you are going to have to do whatever it takes to get there.

2. “If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is, too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.”– Tim Ferriss

Everyday Application: Every single one of us has something we are insecure about. However, don’t let your insecurity hold you back. Insecurity is just another word for fear. Ask yourself what you are afraid of, and what you could gain if you moved past it. You are truly better than you think you are.

3. “Tomorrow becomes never. No matter how small the task, take the first step now!”– Tim Ferriss

Everyday Application: How many times have we put something off until tomorrow, only for weeks, months, or even years to go by without getting it done? Eventually, tomorrow will turn into never. We put off things for a variety of reasons, but if it matters to you then take a step today. Even a small baby step is better than no step at all.

4. “There is no sure path to success, but the surest path to failure is trying to please everyone.”– Tim Ferriss

Everyday Application: No one’s success story looks exactly the same. Heck, even individual definitions of success vary! Do you want to live your life, or the life someone else thinks you should be living? Make yourself happy because that is all you can control.

5. “It isn’t enough to think outside the box. Thinking is passive. Get used to acting outside the box.”– Tim Ferriss

Everyday Application: It might start with a thought or a great idea, but if there is no action, then that is all it will ever be. Don’t be afraid to take some kind of action to see your dreams come to fruition. It may be small actions at first, and sometimes, those actions may not have the results you desired. However, you are one step closer than someone who takes no action at all.

6. “One can steal ideas, but no one can steal execution or passion.”– Tim Ferriss

Everyday Application: An idea is a powerful thing. However, without execution or passion (also known as hard work and sacrifice) they just become whims of fancy. Your idea could be the most life changing thing, but if you don’t make it happen nothing changes!

7. “What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.”– Tim Ferriss

Everyday Application: We fear doing things for a couple of reasons. One of those reasons is because the stakes are so high on both spectrums. Success at this one scary thing could reshape your entire life. Failure, could further complicate your world, and your reaction will determine your future. These kind of stakes make it hard to do anything! But that is exactly why you should do it! Nothing changes, if nothing changes!

You likely sacrificed plenty of time and put in many hours to reach this level, now it is time to focus on putting things in place so you can enjoy it!

10. “Most things make no difference. Being busy is a form of mental laziness.”– Tim Ferriss

Everyday Application: What exactly are you busy doing all day? Is it something that is going to move the needle toward your goals? Is it important for your family? No? Schedule the bulk of your work during those times.

12. “What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.”– Tim Ferriss

Other times, the conversation topic is something that pushes you past your comfort zone, like asking for a raise. The more times you are able to recognize and manage your emotions, or push yourself past what is comfortable, the more skills you will learn. More opportunities will open themselves up to you as well.

Ever told your child, We’ll do it tomorrow? And in your haste, Not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch, Let a good friendship die Cause you never had time To call and say, “Hi”? You’d better slow down. Don’t dance so fast. Time is short. The music won’t last. When you run so fast to get somewhere You miss half the fun of getting there.
